What is Inositol?Updated 3 months ago
Inositol, formerly called Vitamin B7, is a molecule partially synthesised by the human body from glucose (a simple sugar). It has nine different structures, two of which — Myo‑inositol and D‑Chiro‑inositol — are the ones most commonly used in dietary supplements.
Inositol is naturally present in all our tissues, and especially concentrated in the nervous system (the brain), as well as in the heart and liver.
✨ Why is it important?
It can help improve insulin sensitivity, which is linked to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
It plays an essential role in oocyte maturation (the future egg cells). Myo‑inositol supports the production of FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone), crucial for this process.
D‑Chiro‑inositol helps regulate androgen synthesis related to insulin, which are later converted into oestrogens.
